Aliyu began his career as a young boy in 1966 at the Abuja Pottery Training Centre run by Michael Cardew. While there he learnt from potters like Michael O'Brien, Ladi Kwali and others. He continued his career in London, where he exhibited ocassionally, and in Nigeria from the 1980s.
